Parksville Chronicles

Parksville is surprisingly charming if you get off the Island Highway.  Having driven through it several times from Nanaimo to Hornby I tended to dismiss it as just more malls.. like Nanaimo.  However a weekend hosted by my blogger friend Donna gave me time to look around and talk to people in the community.  Our first introduction was to a Beatles Tribute band at the HUGE community park on the waterfront.  Lot of free parking!!!!!   I had had a quick look at the sandcastle competition.IMG_4710

The next day I scouted out the second hand stores and netted some frames for my art work and a tennis racket.   I had a look at some condos for sale. You can buy a nice, new, clean 2 BR condo for about $ 350,000-$ 400,000.

After a day of blogging talk with my fellow bloggers we had a lovely BBQ hosted by Donna and reflected on Life Back in the USA vs Canada.   Their health care premiums are a major part of their living expenses,  more like what we pay for a mortgage.   We are all retired or semi retired and all have very interesting lives.

The next day I stumbled on the BC wine store at Save on Foods.  There was a very well informed sales person who sold me on 6 bottles of BC Wine.  And I don’t even drink, but now I will have something to take the next time I am invited to dinner or Women’s Wednesdays on Hornby. IMG_4728 The sales person (Lorna, as we are on a first name basis now)  was very enthusiastic about the Roses ( where is the accent on my keyboard?).  She was so enthusiastic I am tempted to taste them all.

So here is the selfie from our meet up.  It is odd that we posed with wine, and then I went out and bought some.. must have had wine on the brain.

  2. Hi Ann! It was so great to meet you in person and share ideas about blogging and life in general. Even though all of our lives are so very different, we share more than we realize. And while we won’t make it to Hornby Island this trip, you have intrigued us so who knows about the future? Thanks again for sharing your beautiful country with us and I look forward to the next time we can all get together! ~Kathy
