“Manologues,” “mansplaining” and “manterrupting” are hallmarks of the conference room.

I was just out for a walk on the beach with 1 woman and 1 man and I could feel the mansplaining coming on.
This gender disparity (that men talk more but claim that women hog the floor) has been well known by researchers in human communication for more than 40 years. I used to do research in this area, and my first published article was on this topic — in the ‘70s! Not only that, but the topic has appeared in popular magazines, books and newspaper articles since that time. So, I have to say I feel kind of sad that 40 years later, there’s still a popular myth out there that women do all the talking. Gender equity is an uphill battle.
