After a cold night, the walk across the sand toward the water is cold on my feet. I hurry toward the waterline because I know warmer water is washing ashore. Ahhhh … yes … much better.

The water may be cool, but it’s not cold like the sand because the cold night affects the sand more than the sea’s water. That’s physics.

Today I’m thinking about cold: the cool, chilly, nippy, frosty, biting, nipping, teeth-chattering, freezing, and icy. All of these are cold. All of these are a translation of a…
